چکیده

The paper presents a methodology for simulating the static and dynamic performance of integrated circuits in the presence of electro-thermal interactions on the integrated circuit die. The technique is based on the coupling of a finite element method (FEM) program with a circuit simulator. In difference to other known simulator couplings a time step algorithm is used. Its implementation into simulation tools is described. The thermal modeling of the die/package structure and the extended modeling of the electronic circuit is discussed. Simulation results which indicate the capabilities of the methodology for electrothermal simulation are compared to experimental results. Index Terms Analog modeling with behavioral languages, circuit simulation, electro-thermal circuit simulation, finite element simulation, simulator coupling, thermal modeling.

Simulation of Electro-Thermal Effects in Device and Circuit

This papers describes a computer environment that supports the simultaneous electrical and thermal interactions at device and chip level. A circuit simulator and a finite element thermal simulator are coupled through an application program interface that synchronizes the transfer of information between two simulators. Temperature dependent thermal conductivity of silicon is taken into account b...

An E cient Method for the Self - Consistent Electro - Thermal Simulation and its Integration into a CAD Framework

In this paper we address the chip-level thermal simulation problem. Our work is based on some early results treating electro-thermal problems on circuit level 11, 22. The developed electro-thermal simulation package has been integrated under Cadence DFWII Opus. Due to its relatively low CPU need this package can be used as a thermal veriication tool of layouts of analog circuits. In our approac...

Algorithmic and modeling aspects in the electro-thermal simulation of thermally operated microsystems

A new algorithm has been developed for the layout based electro-thermal simulation of integrated circuits and MEMS, using simultaneous iteration. The general advantage of this method over simulator coupling is that, it is also suitable to cope with very fast changes. The usual drawback is however, that the thermal nodes have to be added to the nodes of the electrical network, rendering usually ...

Fully coupled dynamic electro-thermal simulation

AbstructFully coupled dynamic electro-thermal simulation on chip and circuit level is presented. Temperature dependent thermal conductivity of silicon is taken into account, thus solving the nonlinear heat diffusion equation. The numerical solution is carried out by using the industry-standard simulator SABER, therefore for electro-thermmal simulations we are able to use the common electrical c...
